IN A SACRED WAY WE BUILD
Written and directed by Anthony J. Perzel, Omni Films)

Film documenting the eco planning, environmental design and construction of the Seabird Island Sustainable Community Demonstration Project. Designed by Broadway Architects

Located 100 km east of Vancouver, BC, the Seabird Island First Nation is the site of the first sustainable housing development on any reserve anywhere. Funded by Indian Affairs and Northern Development and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, seven housing units utilize wind, solar and shallow geo-thermal energy.

Floor heating and non-molding drywall complement these flexible units, designed to change over time according to needs. This is a flagship project for future sustainable housing in Canada's First Nations communities — in Building A Sustainable Future. In A Sacred Way We Build documented the environmental design process.
